It's taking a looooooooooong time to finally be able to say it, but we are, in fact, going to Africa. From July 3-Aug. 20, we are traveling to Livingstone, Zambia, to volunteer with an organization called African Impact for over a month. Leah will primarly work in a rural clinics with patients afflicted by HIV/AIDS. Zac will spend the bulk of his time in classrooms helping students in underfunded schools.
We are very excited but nervous, too. This is going to be a costly adventure. Our plane tickets alone cost over $5,000, and we expect total expenses for the two of us to exceed $13,000 when it's all said and done. Going to Africa is not cheap! We realize, though, that we can't just write a check for that amount or put it all on a credit card. We know we have to rely on friends, family, and community members to support us in this important journey.
Over the next few months, we'll be working hard to raise the necessary funds to make this dream a reality. Right now, our fundraising options are wide-open. We know we'll be using this website to accept online donations through PayPal. We also know we'll be sending out letters to our closest friends and family asking them to consider making $100 contributions to our fundraising efforts. We know, too, that we'll receive a lot of support from people of faith. We expect both of our home churches (Faith Lutheran in West Fargo and Langdon United Methodist Church) to be generous supporters through prayer and contributions. Beyond this, we'll explore many creative options to help us raise all the funds we need.
This blog will be updately regularly with out latest news and plans as well as updated news on our fundraising efforts. Please check back often to read more about why we chose Africa and why we are working with African Impact in Zambia.
Thanks in advance for your support. We truly appreciate it and can't thank you enough.
Leah and Zac
